Sad old falling apart apartment
I recently moved in with family friend. He's 30 and has been living in the same aparment for about 3 or 4 years. His roommate moved in with his girlfriend, so there was a spare room available just when I needed it.
So you'd think that a 30 year old man living in the same apartment would have a pretty sweet deal set up in his place....no such luck. The place is falling apart! Greg (my new roommate) did a great job of throwing away the mounds of crap that he had lying around before I moved in, but all that did is expose the age and state of the building.
The Lord of the Rings map of middle earth poster (I'm actually not kidding - this was up on the wall in the living room - no worries - I made a sufficient amount of fun of him for it) came down to reveal holes in the plaster and a few dirt smears. The Apocolypse Now and Indiana Jones poster take downs revealed much of the same.
However - Greg did recently attain two very nice pieces of art (his mother's 30's b-day present to him - God love her...) which are now up in the hallway and living room. As well, Greg managed to rid himself of one of the three laze-y-boys that used to make up the bulk of the furniture in the living room (the other piece being a hammock that hangs across the width of the room).
On to the bathroom - I don't expect two boys living together to have a beautiful bathroom - but I did expect that the building management would have renovated in the past 35 years. I tried to wipe the mold off the ceiling - then some paint came down - so I tried scraping the paint away - then some (by "some" I mean a massive chunk that shattered all over the toilet and floor) plaster came down - so I switched plans and tried to clean the rubber baseboard - which came off - so I tried to scrap the rust and dirt off from where it used to be - then part of the wall plaster came off. So finally I decided that enough was enough and just soaked the whole place in bleach for 3 hours. My head hurt so much by the end of it that I didn't even notice that I had managed to bleach the black mildew in the shower white - at least that's something.
